About

The Kabul Premier League is a domestic Twenty20 cricket tournament held in Afghanistan. It was founded in 2023, with the inaugural season taking place in August of that year. The league is organized by private franchise entities, notably involving partnerships such as Kabul Knight Riders, but it operates under the regulatory oversight of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), which enforces anti-corruption codes and sanctions players involved in the tournament.

The tournament format typically involves six teams playing a single round-robin group stage, followed by knockout stages including semi-finals and a final. The participating teams include Abasin Defenders, Band-e Amir Stars, Kabul Zalmi, Pamir Stars, Shamshad Eagles, and Speenghar Warriors.

The KPL is considered a secondary or emerging domestic league compared to the national status of the Shpageeza Cricket League (SCL). The 2023 season was won by Shaheen Hunters, who defeated Kabul Zalmi in the final. Kabul Zalmi won the subsequent 2024 season, defeating Band-e-Amir Stars, and retained the title in 2025 by defeating Kabul Knight Riders.

The KPL is also distinct from the Kabul Premier League for football (soccer), which is the top provincial football league in Kabul, established in 2007 by the Afghanistan Football Federation.
