About

The Kwibuka Women's Twenty20 Tournament is an annual international cricket event hosted in Rwanda. Founded in 2014, it is organized by the Rwanda Cricket Association and named after the Kinyarwanda word for "to remember." The competition serves as a memorial to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi while promoting peace and the development of cricket in emerging nations. It is an invitational event rather than a domestic league pyramid and does not feature promotion or relegation.

Matches have official Women's Twenty20 International status granted by the International Cricket Council since 2019. The tournament is held at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium in Kigali. The format typically involves a group stage followed by knockout matches. Recent editions have featured five teams playing a double round-robin league, with the top two advancing to a final and the third and fourth playing a third-place playoff.

The 2026 edition was won by Zimbabwe Women High Performance XI, who defeated hosts Rwanda Women by one run in the final. Historical winners include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe High Performance XI. Tanzania holds the record for the most wins among the major participants. The tournament is notable for hosting extreme cricket records, such as the lowest team total in WT20I history, where Mali scored just six runs in 2019, and the highest total, achieved by Uganda with 314 for two in the same year.

The competition is distinct from other regional tournaments due to its unique commemorative purpose and global inclusivity. It has hosted teams from South America, such as Brazil, Europe, and various African nations. The event focuses on bringing together diverse cricketing nations for a shared purpose beyond mere sport.
