Pakistan Women in Australia 2022/23

The encounters between the Pakistan Women's National Team and the Australia Women are structured as bilateral series, typically consisting of three One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals. These fixtures form part of the ICC Women's Championship and T20I rankings, with Australia holding a dominant head-to-head record in both formats. Before the official series begins, a warm-up "tour match" is often staged against the Governor-General XI Women. This exhibition representative side was established in 2016 by Sir Peter Cosgrove and Cricket Australia. It is composed of emerging and experienced domestic players, selected specifically to provide a high-level preparation fixture for visiting teams such as Pakistan, India, and England. While the international fixtures bring the national sides together, the Australian domestic context features two distinct competitions. The Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) is the premier T20 franchise competition, founded in 2015 by Cricket Australia. It replaced the Australian Women's Twenty20 Cup and features eight city-based franchises. The other major domestic competition is the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL), a 50-over state-based competition founded in 1996–97. This serves as the traditional one-day counterpart to the WBBL, with the Queensland Fire currently holding the title. The Pakistan Women's team does not play in a domestic league but participates in international bilateral series and ICC tournaments. Its domestic counterpart is the Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah National Women's Cricket Championship, founded in 2004–05. This is a 50-over state and departmental competition, with ZTBL recognised as the most successful team in its history with seven titles. The Pakistan Cricket Board has recently restructured domestic cricket into composite teams, but the championship remains the historical benchmark for Pakistani players.
