About

The President's Cup Grade-I (1-Day) is a List A domestic cricket tournament in Pakistan. Organised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it was introduced in the 2023–24 season during a restructuring that established a three-tier departmental system. The competition serves as the premier limited-overs event for departmental sides, featuring nine teams including the State Bank of Pakistan, Khan Research Laboratories, and Ghani Glass.

Matches are played over 50 overs. The schedule begins with a group stage, dividing teams into two pools, before moving to semi-finals and a final. Performance dictates movement within the domestic pyramid: the bottom two clubs are relegated to Grade-II, while top performers from the lower tier, specifically the winner of the Grade-II First Class tournament, gain promotion to this division.

Departmental cricket in Pakistan has deep roots. Its lineage reaches back to the Ayub Trophy, established in 1960–61, which became the Patron's Trophy in 1972–73. That competition dominated the departmental landscape until 2014, with Habib Bank Limited securing nine titles. A first-class departmental competition called the President's Trophy ran briefly in 2012–13 and 2013–14, won by SNGPL.

This current iteration is separate from the National One-Day Cup, which caters to regional associations. Recent champions include Sui Northern Gas Pipelines, who won in 2023–24, and the State Bank of Pakistan in the following season. The tournament provides a structured pathway for players, many of whom have represented Pakistan internationally, within a system designed to improve development and competitive balance.
