The title Rwanda Women in Kenya describes a bilateral cricket series rather than a permanent league. It involves the Kenya Women and Rwanda Women national teams competing in Twenty20 matches. These encounters are arranged by Cricket Kenya (CK) and the Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA). Both organisations are Associate Members of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The series began in June 2021 during the Kwibuka Women's T20 Tournament in Kigali. Kenya won that first match. More recent tours have seen the teams play five-match series in Kenya and Rwanda. In September 2024, Rwanda defeated Kenya in a five-match series. In October and November 2024, Kenya visited Rwanda for another five-match contest, which Rwanda won. These bilateral fixtures form the main competitive link between the two sides.
Each nation runs its own domestic structure separately. Kenya's primary competition is the Emily Ruto Memorial Cup, also called the Kenya Women's National Cricket League. Launched in 2022, it features four regional teams in a double round-robin format. Rwanda operates the RCA Women's T20 League and the RCA Women's T10 League at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium. Indatwa Hampshire has won recent titles in both formats. Rwanda also hosts the Kwibuka Women's T20 Tournament, an annual invitational event started in 2014. This tournament brings together regional sides and serves as a key stage for development. The term Rwanda Women in Kenya does not imply a shared domestic league or joint governance structure between the two countries.
