Somerset go top of County Championship after routing Glamorgan
Lewis Gregory's side thrashed Glamorgan in two and a half sessions, moving above Nottinghamshire and nearing a first-ever County Championship title.
Somerset routed Glamorgan in a shade over two and a half sessions to go top of the County Championship, with Lewis Gregory's side now closing in on a first title in the club's history.
Five different bowlers took wickets and six batters passed 41, with Tom Lammonby top-scoring on 95. Nobody dominated, but the result left Glamorgan fifth and looking over their shoulder in a six-club fight against relegation.
Nottinghamshire, the reigning champions and the side Somerset have now leapfrogged, went into their match against Leicestershire in position to answer back. Jack Haynes and Liam Patterson-White put on 257 for the sixth wicket, both scoring centuries, and with Leicestershire reduced to 23 for two at the halfway mark of the match, the win looked to be there for the taking.
Leicestershire's nightwatchman, the seam bowler Josh Hull, had scored 23 runs in total since the start of June. He batted for five hours against Dillon Pennington and Olly Stone and finished unbeaten on 97, leaving Leicestershire 43 runs short of saving the follow-on.
Somerset's win puts pressure back on Nottinghamshire at the top of the table with the season heading into its final stretch, and Glamorgan now have company to worry about at the wrong end of it.
