Warwickshire one win from County Championship title
Warwickshire lead by 11 points and beat Leicestershire at Edgbaston to be champions; a draw with six bonus points also works, says Olly Hannon-Dalby.
Warwickshire are 11 points clear going into the last round of the County Championship and become champions if they beat Leicestershire at Edgbaston. A draw with six bonus points would also be enough.
They won two of their first eight games. Since then they have won four of five, the last two, against Essex and Glamorgan, inside two days. That run took them past the 2025 champions, Nottinghamshire, and left Somerset stumbling at Headingley in the penultimate round after they had been ahead. Leicestershire are fighting relegation.
Olly Hannon-Dalby, who spent the first four games of the season on loan at Worcestershire, now tops the Edgbaston averages with 27 wickets at 18. Asked what has made the side work, he pointed to the strength of the attack.
«Ethan Bamber has had an outstanding year with 60 wickets, and then Chris Woakes has been around the majority of the season. To be able to throw an English legend the ball every now and then is unbelievable – and his demeanour when he plays, how he carries himself is amazing. In fact our depth in general is great, everyone has played and contributed».
