About the player
Alejandro Rodríguez was born in Panama City but holds Colombian nationality, having moved to Cali at the age of six. The choice of country was not automatic: he turned down a call-up to Panama's under-20 side in order to preserve his eligibility for Colombia. He joined Deportivo Cali's academy at 14.
His path to the first team went through three loan spells. At River Plate, between 2019 and 2021, he played for the reserve side but never got past Franco Armani for a place between the posts in the first team. A loan to Real Cartagena in 2022 brought three appearances, before a longer stint at Orsomarso in 2022–2023 gave him a regular run in the Primera B, where he started 27 matches. On his return to Deportivo Cali in 2023, he took over as starting goalkeeper.
Rodríguez was already part of the Deportivo Cali squad that won the 2021-II Categoría Primera A title, though at that point he was not a regular starter. His senior international recognition came in December 2023, when he received a call-up to the Colombia squad.
