K. Gaffney

Charlie Gaffney made his first-team debut for Seattle Sounders on 12 August 2026, starting in a Leagues Cup match against Chivas de Guadalajara, and was named among the substitutes for the MLS fixtures against Vancouver Whitecaps and Austin FC that followed. The step up came after he signed with Tacoma Defiance in MLS NEXT Pro in March 2025, once his college career had run its course.

That path ran through the University of Pennsylvania, where he made 62 appearances for the Quakers between 2021 and 2024, scoring three goals and setting up 13 more. He was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week in his first season. Alongside his studies he turned out for Ballard FC in USL League Two, where he was a regular scorer and creator, and where the team's run to the USL League Two national title in 2023 included his own winning goal in the Western Conference final. Ballard also won back-to-back Northwest Division championships in 2023 and 2024.

Gaffney's roots in the game go back further still, to spells in the Seattle Sounders academy and a season with Portland Timbers' under-19 side, before college soccer became his route to the professional game. He has yet to add international recognition to that record.
