Joan Cagares

Joan Cajares broke through in Colombian football via Deportivo Pasto's youth ranks before making his senior debut with Valledupar FC in the Categoría Primera B in 2022. He was called up to the Colombia under-20 squad for a training camp in Barranquilla ahead of the South American U-20 Championship. Some records from his Valledupar spell list him as a midfielder, though he has settled into defensive duty since, now operating as a right-back.

The bulk of his development came at Real Cundinamarca, known for part of that spell as Real Soacha Cundinamarca, where he spent close to three years and passed 150 appearances across all competitions in the second division. He left the club in January 2026 to join Fortaleza CEIF, with the fee not disclosed.

At Fortaleza, Cajares has held down a starting spot in the Primera A this season, appearing 24 times with a goal and an assist to his name, alongside six yellow cards. He was at the centre of a moment against Chicó FC on 26 August 2026, conceding a penalty for handball inside his own box that gifted Jaguares de Córdoba a goal — Fortaleza still saw the match through, winning 2-1.

He won the Supercopa Juvenil FCF in 2024 and was a runner-up in the Campeonato Prejuvenil Sub-17 A in 2023.
