The under-17 side takes its bearings from where the senior team already is, but at its own level the results have stayed modest. The 2025 campaign followed that pattern — a 9–0 win over the Faroe Islands, a 4–1 defeat to the Netherlands, a goalless draw with Norway, then a 6–1 loss to Spain in the match for fifth place.

The squad trains and plays out of the ÖFB Frauen-Akademie in St. Pölten, using the NV-Arena for its home fixtures, a ground that holds 8,000. Founded in 2005 by the Austrian Football Association, the team took its first competitive steps that October in qualifying rounds held in Greece.

Its value has always been measured less in results than in who comes through it. Katharina Naschenweng played 15 times at this level before stepping up to the senior team in 2016, and Sarah Zadrazil made the same move six years earlier, in 2010, after six caps with the under-17s.

What sharpens a qualifying campaign for this age group is less a fixed rival than the draw itself: in a European under-17 competition, group opponents change from cycle to cycle, and a team that beat the Faroe Islands 9–0 one week can find itself with no answer to the Netherlands the next.
