Briançon

The Ligue Magnus title arrived once, in 2014. That was the season the Red Devils finally closed it out. A domestic double of sorts came around it: the Coupe de France in 2010 and 2013, the Coupe de la Ligue in 2012, the Trophée des Champions in 2013.

None of it came without interruption. The bankruptcy that followed the 1991–92 season sent the club down to Division 3, and it took until 2002–03 to work back into the top flight. It was not the first time the club had gone quiet — the side had already stopped playing altogether during the 1962–63 season before starting again. Between the collapses it changed its own name more than once, becoming Hockey Club Briançonnais in 1975 before the senior side settled on Diables Rouges in 1990.

Home games are played at the Patinoire René Froger, named for a figure the club itself considers one of its own. Red, white and black have stayed the colours throughout. Across the Hautes-Alpes, the fixture against Gap HC is played as the Derby des Hautes-Alpes.

The line back to the start runs through Pierre Gravier, who set up a hockey section inside the Club des Sports d'Hiver du Briançonnais in 1934. The first match went ahead that December, on the 29th, against the Français Volants at the Chaumière rink — the point from which everything above eventually followed.
