Draguignan Var Handball grew out of that culture in 1979, formed to give the sport a home in the city.
That changed inside three seasons. In 2023-2024 the club topped Nationale 1 Géographique, and the following campaign it went further still, winning Nationale 1 Fédérale outright with 19 wins from 24 matches.
The rise arrived with a coaching change. Nikola Vojinovic, a former Serbian international, took over in 2024 and built a squad for the step up, bringing in players such as left back Robin Paris from Caen and pivot Jacob Jensen from Pau-Billère. Alongside them came two men raised at Saint-Raphaël Var Handball, Romain Quatrevaux and David Eponouh.
Home games are played at the Salle Carbonnel, inside the Maison des Sports et de la Jeunesse. Local rivalry is settled against US La Crau Handball in what is known locally as the derby varois, while La Seyne Var Handball provides the other measure of standing in the department.
