Erfurt

These days the men's team competes as TecArt Black Dragons Erfurt, a name the club has carried since it split its senior side off into EHC Thüringen e.V. in 2006 to keep the finances of the wider club separate, before settling on EHC Erfurt e.V. in 2010.

The ice hockey section itself is older than that reshuffle. It grew out of Eissportclub Erfurt, founded on 20 October 1989 as a multi-sport club, with hockey added the following year and a first season in the Sachsenliga in 1990/91. Under the Black Dragons name the team climbed fast through the regional leagues: the Hessenliga four times between 1991/92 and 1996/97, the Regionalliga Hessen twice in the same stretch, then the Regionalliga North Rhine-Westphalia in 1997/98, which took them up into the third tier. The rise did not hold. In 2000/01 the club ran into financial trouble and dropped back down to the Sachsenliga, the fifth tier, and had to work its way back to the Oberliga for 2007/08.

The clearest mark the youth setup has left is Moritz Seider, who came through the Erfurt academy before going on to captain the German national team and play in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. Long-serving figures at the other end of the ledger include Oliver Otte, with the club since 2002, and Eric Wunderlich, who wore the captaincy for years.

Home games are played at the Eissporthalle Erfurt on Arnstädter Straße, a rink known locally as the "Kartoffelhalle".

The club has never reached the DEL or DEL2, and has never won the DEB-Pokal.
