Hans Lindberg left HØJ as a teenager to build a career in the Danish national team's colours, and in 2024, with the club back in the top flight, he returned to the senior side he had started out in during the late 1990s. He retired in 2026 and stayed on as sports director. Bo Spellerberg, another player with national-team pedigree, had already taken a similar route in reverse, combining playing duties with an assistant coaching role between 2020 and 2023.

The move up eventually took the men's team out of the old Ølstykke-Hallen and into the newer Multiarena for its top-flight matches, though the 500-seat hall remains the club's traditional home.

Trophies have never been the point here. HØJ has no Danish Championship or Danish Cup to its name. The 2025/2026 season in the Herre Håndbold Ligaen ended badly: bottom of the table, then a relegation playoff lost to KIF Kolding. HØJ now goes back into the 1. Division, with Lindberg off the court but very much still part of how the club tries to find its way back up.
