Topolcany

The Topvar Aréna in Topoľčany holds 3,400 people.

Founded in 1932 as AC Juventus Topoľčany, the club merged with ŠK Topoľčany in 1939 to produce TS Topoľčany, and the name shifted again through TJ Topoľčany, HC VTJ Topoľčany and HK Topoľčany before HC Topoľčany was restored in 2006.

The clearest mark the club has left on Slovak hockey is the players it sent onward rather than the trophies it kept. Miroslav Šatan scored 30 goals in 31 games there in the 1991–92 season before a career that took him to the NHL, and Topoľčany's name is still attached to his early form more than to any of its own titles. The one championship on record dates to 1980, in the second Czechoslovak league; more recently, in 2004–05 and 2005–06, the team reached the Extraliga promotion playoffs as runners-up in the 1. Liga both years, losing out first to HK Dubnica and then to MHC Martin.

Topoľčany now competes in the 1. Liga, Slovakia's second tier, without a fixed rival among the Extraliga clubs nearby such as Nitra. The derby that matters locally is against HK Iskra Partizánske — no fixed name attaches to the fixture, but it is the one meeting on the calendar both sides treat as more than three points.
