The ground at the end of Alder Street is defined by the gradient. The pitch runs from a club house at the far end down towards the turnstiles at the near end, and the surface has historically been described as boggy or muddy, with a 'comically large mound' noted on the goal line in 2012. It is the home of Atherton Collieries A.F.C., a club founded in 1916 by miners from six local pits that has played here since its establishment. The venue has a current capacity of 2,500 spectators.

Floodlights were installed in 1994, and the pitch was rotated 90 degrees at some point during the club's tenure. Major renovations include the demolition of a leaning stand in 2007 and crowdfunded ground works in 2020, which resulted in two covered seating stands and two covered standing areas, one expanded for disabled access. The record attendance was 3,300, set in the 1920s during a Bolton Combination match.

The historic Grade II* listed Alder House building, constructed in 1697 by Ralph and Ann Astley, is located nearby but is a separate entity from the stadium. The site has also been known as The Dreams2Reality Stadium, The Skuna Stadium, and The Kensite Stadium.
