Alexander Vinokurov Sports Palace
Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan
The Alexander Vinokurov Sports Palace opens its doors to the city of Petropavlovsk as a multi-purpose complex. It sits at 84 Zhambyla Zhabayev Street, placing it squarely within the Zhas Orken microdistrict in the city centre. The venue carries the name of the local cyclist and Olympic champion.
What stands out most is the variety of facilities packed into the building. It is not just an ice rink; the complex also houses a velodrome and an indoor running track, or athletic manege. The ice court itself holds 1,000 spectators, while a separate universal sports hall accommodates 500. The primary tenant is the ice hockey club Kulager Petropavlovsk, which uses the facility for matches in the Kazakhstan Hockey Championship.
The building was officially opened in 2015, following a construction period that began the previous year.
Beyond hockey, the venue hosts other events. It has seen the opening ceremony for local competitions, as well as mixed martial arts bouts like Namys MMA 3 and the Republican Qazaq Kuresi Championships. The facility is owned by the Department of Construction of the City of Petropavlovsk and was built with a budget of around 3 billion tenge.
