Bee Arena

The ground at 651 Lincoln Road is what it is: a pitch with a stand. The surface is natural grass.

The capacity is small. In May 2022, the Southern League Premier Division Central play-off final drew 1,895 people into the space. The game was stopped for half an hour because the crowd found a way through the usual order. It was a day when the table went out of the window, and Peterborough Sports beat Coalville Town 2–0 to reach the National League North. The heat took the sting out of the trouble afterwards, but the memory of that afternoon remains.

The club itself has been around since 1908, starting as Brotherhood Engineering Works before becoming Peterborough Sports in 2001. They have been here since the early twentieth century, though the current buildings were not put up until 2012. Prior to that, the site was just Lincoln Road, named for the street it sits on rather than any grand title. Now it is the Bee Arena, sponsored by a local property agency that holds the rights. The name is practical, like everything else about the place.

The stand is covered, the seats are close together, and the atmosphere is not one of distant admiration but of shared inconvenience. You do not come here to see a perfect game. You come here because the team is yours, and you know that one mistake ends it. The pitch may be uneven, but the result is never in doubt until the final whistle.
