Buderus Arena opened in Wetzlar on 11 March 2005 as the Mittelhessen-Arena, before becoming the Rittal Arena Wetzlar in 2006 and taking its current name in 2022. The city of Wetzlar commissioned the €16 million indoor venue, designed by the Zwickau-based practice Architektur Concept Pfaffhausen + Staudte GbR, to serve as the home of the handball club HSG Wetzlar.

The venue also hosted the 2007 World Men's Handball Championship and the 2007 Wheelchair Basketball European Championship, alongside the 2006 Bundesvision Song Contest and the 2014 German Table Tennis Championships.

Located at Wolfgang-Kühle-Straße 1, the facility sits in the Lahn-Dill-Kreis district of the state of Hesse. Its capacity was set at 4,421 for the league, a limit that has stood since the ground first filled for a domestic match. The arena’s history is tied to the local club, which has used the space since its inception.
