Budvar Arena
České Budějovice, Czechia
Formerly: Zimní stadion, Prestava Arény
Budvar Arena stands in České Budějovice. This is not a football ground; it is an ice rink.
The building is older than the concrete around it. It opened in 1946, making it the third ice stadium in Czechoslovakia, following facilities in Prague and Bratislava. It has seen the city change while keeping its shape. During the 2001–2002 renovation period, the venue carried the temporary name Prestava Arény before the beer brand Budweiser Budvar took the naming rights in 2007.
Inside, the floor is artificial ice, measuring 58 by 28 meters. HC Motor České Budějovice plays here, competing in the Czech Extraliga. The venue also hosts concerts for Czech artists like Kabát and Lucie. The capacity is 6,421 spectators.
What makes the place stand out are the events it has pulled off for international sport. It hosted groups for the 1966 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship, long before the current setup. More recently, it staged the 2005 IIHF World U18 Championship and the 2025 IIHF Women's World Championship. The latter saw the United States defeat Canada 4–3 in the final. The arena is just one spot in the town, but it holds the ice for those moments.
