ČPP Arena

The structure opened in 1957 as an open-air ice rink before being enclosed, a change that reduced the originally planned capacity. The current form emerged after renovations in 2014.

Further along the exterior, a pair of black-and-white portraits, Puč and Plánička, stand beside a silver trophy. These images belong to a different sport, yet they hang on the same walls where the ice hockey team Mountfield HK plays every winter. The ice itself is created via artificial refrigeration, a system that has been updated over decades, most recently in 2007 when a new cooling plant was installed.

The ground is the only arena in the city centre that holds both hockey and basketball, though the basketball events are fewer and further between. The stands hold 6,890 spectators, a number that has shrunk as the building has been modernised. A bus sits parked on a raised section of pavement behind the arena, and a bicycle leans against a railing in an empty car park to one side. The building does not announce itself as a temple of any sport; it is a functional space that has lived through changing sponsorship names and changing equipment. The history between the city and the ice is kept in the renovations rather than the text.
