The ground was raised in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration to replace Recreation Park, a predecessor that had burned down a year earlier. It took the name of Edward Joseph Dunn, a local businessman who had donated the land and managed the site before he died in 1927. The venue has hosted everything from minor league baseball to concerts, including The Beach Boys and Poco in 1984, and Skid Row in 2011. It is the home of the Elmira Pioneers, who play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL), and the Elmira College baseball team.

Wade Boggs, Curt Schilling and Jim Palmer all played here at some point. Don Zimmer even married on the field in 1951. The stadium has seen its share of renovations — a repaint in 1993, a larger update in 2012 paid for by the city — but the bones remain. The capacity sits at 4,020, though some say 4,200. The exact single-game record is unknown, but the Pioneers drew 43,734 fans in 2012, enough to set a league mark.
