Eisstadion Davos
Davos, Switzerland
Formerly: Vaillant Arena, Zondacrypto Arena
The Eisstadion Davos does not look like the many indoor rinks built across Switzerland for winter sport. This one is built from wood. The roof is the first thing you notice.
HC Davos has played here since the 1979/80 season, and the structure has provided a roof for the club through every promotion and relegation since. The arena was originally built for the club's rise to the Nationalliga A, and the wooden skeleton has held up through decades of matches.
It is not just a hockey arena. The space is also used for the Spengler Cup, an annual tournament that brings crowds into the valley, and for events like the Art on Ice figure skating gala. Sometimes the arena becomes the "House of Switzerland", the official space for the Swiss government during the World Economic Forum. But on most nights, it is simply a wooden hall where the sound of skates on ice echoes against the beams above.
