The current Elazığ Atatürk Stadyumu stands on the site of a facility that closed in 2019. The previous ground dates back to 1974, built by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to replace a 1938 stadium that had served the city for decades. The new structure, designed by Alper Aksoy Mimarlık, opened in May 2023 with a capacity of 18,423 seats and meets UEFA standards.

The natural grass pitch sits within this oval boundary, heated from below to protect the surface in Elazığ's cold winters.

The stadium's location in the Cumhuriyet Neighborhood places it within the city fabric rather than in an outlying development. The main tenant is Elazığspor, which competes in the TFF Second League.

The venue hosted a UEFA Women's Nations League match on September 26, 2023, when Turkey defeated Lithuania 2–0 in front of 6,700 spectators. The official attendance record was set later, on May 20, 2024, during a TFF 3. Lig Play-Off match between Çimentaş Elazığspor and Efeler 09 SFK, with 16,689 spectators in attendance.

The region's seismic history shaped the stadium's construction. The building includes 20 evacuation doors and 24-hour disaster management systems.
