It was built by the municipality of Farroupilha, with construction starting in 1979 and the opening ceremony taking place on January 15, 1980. The site had a previous life as Estádio da Baixada Rubra — a ground players themselves put together in 1949 — but the 1980 rebuild gave it something more permanent. Significant renovations came in 2007 and 2011, when sponsor Cortiana Plásticos helped fund new locker rooms, a gym, administrative areas, press cabins, boxes, and replaced the fencing around the stands.

Brasil de Farroupilha call it home. The pitch carries Tifway-419 grass imported from Germany, though the exact dimensions are not entirely settled — 105 by 68 metres or 108 by 72, depending on who you ask. The capacity sits at 5,000, and the all-time record of 4,500 came on July 8, 1995, when Brasil de Farroupilha and Grêmio played to a 0–0 draw. Grêmio and Esportivo have also used it for their matches.

On June 19, 2024, fans of Esportivo vandalized the stadium and assaulted a player during a match.
