Fælledhallen

Skanderborg has traded the cramped confines of Morten Børup Hallen , once known to locals as The Cigar Box , for a brighter, larger space. Fælledhallen opened in October 2016, situated within the municipality’s broader complex alongside the town hall and police station. This arena became the first public building in Denmark to secure DGNB Platinum certification, a distinction that speaks to the standards set by architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen and contractor KPC Herning A/S. By August 2026, it will be Freja Arena .

Inside, the floor is artificial, built for the fast-paced demands of handball. The women’s team, Skanderborg Håndbold, moved in during 2017, followed soon after by the men’s side, which was forged in 2021 through a merger with Århus Håndbold. Both squads now operate from this single base, competing in their respective leagues. There is no standalone website for the hall; the details are managed through the municipality’s central portal.
