The ground sits on a street that sounds as if it should lead to a factory rather than a football club, but Gander Green Lane is exactly where it says it is. Sutton United have called it home since 1919, though the site itself opened a few years earlier. The ground has lived through the arrival of artificial surfaces and the return of natural grass, a change made in 2021 when the club reached the English Football League and regulations demanded a different kind of turf. The pitch now carries the weight of that rulebook, a shift that cost more than the half a million pounds required to strip the old plastic and lay the earth.

The capacity settles at 7,032, a figure that reflects the removal of terracing and the demolition of the old stands. The 1997 works saw minor adjustments to the terracing, but the 2021 renovation was more decisive, tearing down the 'Shoebox' and building a new away stand in its place. The atmosphere shifts with the game. The 1989 victory over Coventry City drew a crowd that would have filled the standing areas, a memory that sits alongside the 6–0 defeat to Leeds United in 1970, when the record of 14,000 was set.

The site hosts other teams as well, including Crystal Palace Women since 2023, but the primary identity belongs to the local club. The MBA Lounge, operating as the 'Boom Boom Club', suggests a different kind of evening after the final whistle. The ground has also staged international fixtures, hosting the 2018 ConIFA World Football Cup, a tournament for states without FIFA recognition. The name has changed over time—Knights Community Stadium, VBS Community Stadium—but the address remains a fixed point in Sutton.
