Haabersti jäähall

Haabersti jäähall sits in the Haabersti district of Tallinn, a building that arrived in December 2002 when the city needed more room for ice sports. It is not a single stadium but two rinks, both the same size, which makes the place feel wider than most local halls. The main arena holds 500 people, while the smaller rink next door takes only twenty, a difference that suggests the facility is designed for quiet training rather than big crowds.

The ground is home to HC Panter and HC Purikad, clubs that stretch the back line when they play here. The venue has hosted international tournaments for younger players, from the IIHF World U18 Championship Division II to the European Women Champions Cup, so the ice is accustomed to visitors who travel for a weekend of games. There are no grand stands or loud announcements; the atmosphere comes from the sound of skates carving through the surface.

For a long time the hall carried the name Premia Jäähall, a sponsorship that lasted until 2013, before the branding shifted to Škoda Jäähall in January of that year. The current title returns to the district, dropping the commercial label but keeping the function. The facility is operated by Osaühing Haabersti Jäähall, with Maire Arm as the main decision-maker, a structure that has kept the venue running for over two decades despite the frozen weather outside.

There are no photographs of the exterior that reveal much about its architecture beyond its practicality. It is a box of concrete and glass, unremarkable from the street, but inside the lighting is bright and even. The two rinks are separated enough to allow simultaneous training sessions, which is useful when both teams need to warm up before a match. The place does not try to impress; it simply works.
