Halyk Arena
Almaty, Kazakhstan
The Halyk Arena in Almaty is not a traditional football ground, and its character comes from its purpose as a multi-purpose ice sports venue.
Inside, the arena is defined by its ice rink, which measures 61 by 30 meters. The surface is natural ice, maintained specifically for winter sports. The seating arrangement is tiered, with rows of seats rising up the sides of the rink.
The arena was built to host international events, serving as a primary venue for the 2017 Winter Universiade. Its design allows for quick conversion between sporting events and other functions. During the pandemic, the space was adapted into a temporary field hospital, demonstrating the versatility of the large interior. Today, it remains a key location for hockey and figure skating in Kazakhstan.
The venue is located at Kuldzhinsky Tract 2, in the Medeu District of Almaty. It is the home of the HC Almaty ice hockey team, which plays in the Pro Hokei Ligasy. The arena also hosts concerts and other cultural events, adding to its role as a central hub for activity in the city.
