Handball-Arena Rieden/Vorkloster: Stadium in Bregenz

The Handball-Arena Rieden/Vorkloster stands in the Rieden-Vorkloster district of Bregenz. Opened in 2004, it replaced the cramped Schendlinger Halle. The building is a product of the New Vorarlberg School of Architecture, designed by the Architektengruppe Nägele, Ritsch und Waibel for the city. Its clean lines won the Hypo Bauherrenpreis the following year.

Inside, the space is divided by curtains into four sections. The synthetic PVC surface sits on concrete, laid down by Hoppe Sportbodenbau. The seating consists of four telescopic stands holding 1,200 spectators, with room for 400 more standing. Official records state a capacity of 1,600, yet on May 27, 2015, the hall hosted the Handball Liga Austria Playoff Final between Bregenz Handball and Alpla HC Hard with nearly 2,000 people inside, exceeding the limit.

Bregenz Handball claims the arena as its home. They are joined occasionally by the Austrian Men's National Handball Team for qualifiers and friendlies, facing opponents like North Macedonia and Turkey. The hall also saw action for the 2016 European Women's Handball Championship qualifiers and for SSV Dornbirn Schoren, who have held ÖHB-Cup matches here.
