Házenkářská hala STaRS

The Házenkářská hala STaRS is not merely a sports facility; it is a civic anchor in Karviná’s Nové Město district. Unlike the city’s larger ice rink, which once hosted the 8,000-strong crowds for European Cup Winners’ Cup matches against Sporting Lisbon in the early 1970s, this hall serves as the dedicated home for the local handball tradition. The building’s identity is inextricably linked to the professional club HCB Karviná, which has played in the city since 1955.

The structure itself carries a visual weight distinct from standard multipurpose arenas. A large mural of Czech handball legend František Brůna dominates the facade. Inside, the atmosphere is intimate. The seating capacity is listed as 1,120. The surface is artificial turf suitable for multiple disciplines, and the primary focus remains the fast-paced action of handball.

Recent modifications have included a modernization of the ventilation system, ensuring the air remains fresh despite the intensity of the matches. The facility is owned by the municipal company STaRS Karviná, s.r.o., which also manages other recreational services in the town. Financial reports indicate a recent investment of approximately 12 million CZK into the venue, with plans for an extension featuring new changing rooms and a gym scheduled for 2026.

The hall does not limit itself to sport alone; its rental agreements allow for cultural and social events.
