Íþróttamiðstöð Vestmannaeyja

Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland

The Íþróttamiðstöð Vestmannaeyja is a sports centre. The complex was built between 1975 and 1976, a project that began when the Minister of Education turned the first sod on May 31, 1976. The outdoor football stadium, Hásteinsvöllur, belongs to ÍBV. The pitch has seen natural grass for decades, until July 2025 brought a new artificial turf surface after long delays.

The southern stand offers cover for those watching. The rest of the thousand seats sit exposed to the elements. On August 3, 2013, ÍBV lost 1–2 to FH. The stadium has hosted European fixtures, including Europa League matches against St Patrick's Athletic, but it never holds the Icelandic Cup finals.

Inside the main building, the swimming pool was consecrated on July 10, 1976. The sports hall opened two months later on September 12, 1976. The indoor hall has a synthetic sports floor used for handball and gymnastics. The complex has also hosted local cultural events like the Lúðrasveitaball. You can find the address at Brimhólabraut 1, where the municipal engineer Páll Zóphóníasson once oversaw the work. The building was designed by the Danish architect Paul Kærsgaard, with main work completed by Hans Jacobsen and Hans Crameren.
