Eisarena Salzburg holds its place in the city by virtue of its location in the Volksgarten rather than its stature.

The surface is artificial ice, a fact that separates it from venues built for winter sports on natural snow. The perimeter around the rink has been modernised over the years, with upgrades to the seating and the VIP grandstand known as the Bulls Lounge. The arena serves as the home ground for EC Red Bull Salzburg, competing in the ICE Hockey League. Matches here are often sold out, filling the hall to its capacity of 3,400 for ice hockey events.

Outside the main bowl, the architecture is functional, reflecting the building's practical origins. The venue has hosted events beyond sport, including concerts, though these are secondary to its primary function. The venue has maintained its identity through various renovations, keeping its name as Eisarena Salzburg rather than adopting a corporate sponsor's title for the building itself.
