It opened in 2009 as part of the Thor Heyerdahl Upper Secondary School project, a joint venture between the municipality and the county.
The wooden parquet floor is the only constant, a surface that works for everything from handball to volleyball and the occasional heavy metal concert. The official website lists a maximum capacity of 4,400 for other events, while the handball setup fits 4,000.
Larvik Håndballklubb (Larvik HK) has played its home matches here since the opening, moving from the older Larvikshallen. They fancy their chances in the EHF Champions League, and the arena regularly hosts those games.
The venue also hosts the Spetakkelfestivalen, a heavy metal and hard rock festival that brings a different kind of energy to the floor.
