Kiss Szilárd Sportcsarnok

Siófok, Hungary

The Kiss Szilárd Sportcsarnok was not built for football. The building sits in the Fokihegy district of Siófok. The arena opened in 2018, but the formal ceremonies did not take place until the following year. It stands on land bought from the municipality by the Hungarian State, paid for with roughly 3 billion HUF.

The most striking feature from the outside is the design of the main stand. It is a modern construction, built by Baton-Dekor Art Kft using Mapei flooring for the handball court inside. The venue is the home of Siófok KC, a women's handball team that competes in the NB I and European competitions, and it hosts other squads like Alba Fehérvár KC and FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria when they visit the town.

It is not a football ground, yet the architects clearly intended for it to be more than a simple gymnasium. The arena has hosted concerts, including one by the rock band Edda Művek in March 2019, and high-profile European handball matches, such as the 2020/21 EHF European League quarter-finals against HC Astrakhanochka.
