Indoor Children's Ice Palace

The Children's Ice Palace "Metallurg" sits in the Pravoberezhny District of Magnitogorsk, tucked away down Prospekt Lenina. It is not a grand edifice for the masses, but a utilitarian structure built for a specific purpose. The facility opened in 1997 as an extension to the main sports palace, commissioned by the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Works to serve the club's youth.

The building is defined by its function. It houses a standard indoor ice rink, complete with modern boards and a heated roof designed to keep the cold air inside and the heat loss outside. The capacity is small—330 spectators according to the current records, though older texts might suggest a lower number. It is not a place for sell-out crowds or noise; it is a training ground.

HC Magnitka, the VHL affiliate team of HC Metallurg, uses the venue as a home arena. They were founded in 2024, but the ice underneath them has a longer history. The rink hosted the MHL team Stalnye Lisy during their 2009/2010 Harlaev Cup championship run. The final series, naturally, was played at the larger Arena Metallurg, where the real drama unfolded. Here, the games are quieter. Recent VHL matches have seen attendances between 88 and 102 spectators, a number that reflects the local nature of the club.

The building has not undergone major renovations or name changes. It has been associated with "Metallurg" since the day the ice was laid. It is not a landmark for tourists or a venue for international concerts. It is a functional space for the next generation of hockey players, a place where the young players from the "Metallurg" sports school gather to learn the game. The atmosphere is not one of roaring crowds, but of focused practice. The ice is cut up quickly during the winter months, and the players must keep their side in it through the long season.
