Lonza Arena

The Lonza Arena in Visp did not arrive quietly. It replaced the former Litterna-Halle, which had served as the home of the local ice hockey club EHC Visp since 1979. The old building had grown too small, and the new facility was designed by the architectural firms rollimarchini Architekten and Scheitlin Syfrig Architekten, with construction realised by Frutiger AG, which won the project competition in 2016.

The venue opened on September 6, 2019, with a match against SCL Tigers, which EHC Visp lost 0–3. NHL player Nico Hischier, who hails from the Upper Valais region, threw the first puck. The following day, the team played HC Davos, losing 0–5. The attendance record was set on October 29, 2021, during a 'Walliser Derby' match against HC Siders, which was the first time the arena was sold out, reaching the full capacity of 5,150.

The name 'Lonza Arena' was announced simultaneously with the public vote in November 2016, which approved the construction of the new multi-purpose venue. The arena has not undergone any name changes since its opening. The playing surface is an artificial ice rink built on a concrete slab. It is a climate-controlled indoor facility used primarily for ice hockey and public skating.

The arena has a total capacity of 5,150 spectators, comprising 2,000 seated places and the remainder standing. The primary tenant is EHC Visp, a professional ice hockey club that competes in the Swiss League, the second tier of Swiss ice hockey. The club has been the tenant since the arena opened in 2019.
