Lower Road

Lower Road has kept its name since it opened in 1980. The club moved there from a patch of land near Pooles Lane after purchasing the site from the local council.

The advertising boards are low and unobtrusive, sitting close to the touchline rather than towering over the players. It is a working ground, not a spectacle.

Capacity figures vary between sources, with some suggesting 1,500 and others 1,000, but the space feels cramped only when the local supporters pack in. The little clubhouse opens its doors for the players and officials, a modest building that has been part of the site since 1983. The ground does not host international matches or cup finals. It is a home for the Eastern Counties League.

The atmosphere here is not one of roaring expectation. It is quieter, focused on the game itself. The pitch is the centre of attention, and the players on it are the main event. There are no corporate boxes or luxury suites to distract from the action. It is a place where the team plays its part, and the fans watch from the terraces. The ground has not changed much in its appearance, and perhaps that is why it endures. It does not try to be anything other than what it is.
