Martiniplaza sits in the Oud-Zuid district of Groningen, tucked into the Martini Trade Park neighbourhood. The complex grew from the original Martinihal, which opened in September 1969, with an adjacent event hall added two years later. A major renovation in 2000 and 2001 merged the facilities and renamed the venue. The wooden parquet floor converts between basketball and other uses, while the theatre hall holds around 1,550 people for standing concerts or exhibitions.

Donar Groningen claims the ground as its home and has collected six Dutch Basketball League titles here, along with seven Dutch Basketball Cups. The arena seats approximately 4,350 for sports events, though it can accommodate up to 10,000 for standing concerts. Lycurgus occasionally plays here too, though FC Groningen has never claimed it as their home ground.

The venue has hosted EuroBasket 2014 games for Israel and seen Dutch Basketball Cup finals played out on its courts. It is not the grandest arena in the Netherlands, but it holds its own in the Dutch Basketball League.
