The crowd is small, maybe half a thousand people, and they seem to know everyone. There is no corporate signage, no giant screens, just a simple wooden structure that has seen better days. The players looked tired by the second half, and the stadium fell silent when they started to talk amongst themselves.

This is not a place for history or records. It is a place for a rainy Tuesday night or a bright Sunday afternoon when you need to get out of the house. The colours of the teams were washed out by the glare, and the referee turned it on, blowing his whistle for the third time in as many minutes. The home support did not chant, they just watched, and that was enough.

There is a sense of calm here that you do not find in the big stadiums. The players ran down the wing, and the defender pulled off a stunning save by tackling him before he could cross. The home side took them apart in the first ten minutes, but the visitors saw the game out. The sun went down behind the dome, and the shadows stretched across the pitch, covering the lines that marked the zones.

Ilmatar Areena is just a place to play football. It does not promise anything else.
