Merkur Eisstadion

The ground sits in the Liebenau district of Graz, but locals know it simply as the Bunker. It is not a football stadium; the pitch is a sheet of ice, maintained by artificial refrigeration rather than the sun.

Before them, other local teams like ATSE Graz took to the boards. The arena opened in 1963, replacing an earlier facility, and has kept its shape through the decades. It has hosted everything from the European Figure Skating Championships to concerts, though the main business is always the game. The building is owned by the City of Graz, and the name Merkur-Eisstadion is a sponsorship deal that sits on top of the original identity.
