Molde Arena: Stadium in Molde

The Aker Stadion sits in the Reknes district of Molde, but it is the artificial pitch that draws the eye first.

The ground was born from the money of Kjell Inge Røkke, the club owner. He financed the construction of NOK 212 million, and the building won the City Prize in 1999 for being a profitable and innovative project that increased the value of the surrounding area. The architect Kjell Kosberg designed the structure, which opened on April 18, 1998. At that time, it was called the Molde Stadion . The name changed to Aker Stadion in 2006, though UEFA fixtures still sometimes list the older title.

Inside, the capacity is 11,249. The record crowd was 13,308, a sell-out for a match against Rosenborg in September 1998. Rosenborg won 2–0 and secured the league title that year.

The venue also hosts concerts. Stevie Wonder played there in 2004, and later bands celebrated the completion of the Ormen Lange gas field processing plant. The Molde Arena is a separate indoor hall, but it is not the football ground. The main stadium stands alone.
