Municipal Stadium of LKS named after Władysław Król

Football has been played on this patch of al. Unii Lubelskiej since 1924, and everything built there since has stayed on the same footprint. That continuity is the point: the ground did not move to a greenfield site on the edge of Łódź when the time came to rebuild. It was taken down and put back up around the club that has always used it.

The rebuild came in stages rather than in one sweep. The first section opened in 2015, and for the next six years the ground worked as a part-finished thing. The contractor Mirbud saw the work through to the ceremonial opening on 22 April 2022, which is when the arena as it now stands can properly be said to have existed.

The name took as long to settle as the concrete. Through the building years the club's own supporters and the press called it Stadion ŁKS-u Łódź; the city, in its paperwork, called it Stadion Miejski w Łodzi. Both were in use at once. That ended on 24 May 2021, when the mayor of Łódź, Hanna Zdanowska, signed the order naming the ground after Władysław Król, a footballer and ice hockey player of the pre-war years. From that summer the official name has been Stadion Miejski im. Władysława Króla.

The pitch is natural grass with undersoil heating. ŁKS Łódź are the tenants, as they have been, in one form or another.
