Namibia Cricket Ground
Windhoek, Namibia
Cricket Street has not always been a sporting thoroughfare. The new ground in the Olympia suburb of Windhoek has only existed since the opening of its first international match in October 2025, yet it already commands the space. This facility has arrived with a purpose that goes beyond replacing worn concrete. It was developed at a cost of $4 million USD, a figure that suggests the ambition behind the project.
What is visible on the stands today speaks to the energy of the place. The capacity is 7,500, a number that allows for a full house without feeling cavernous.
The pitch itself is natural grass, maintained to a standard that allows for the hosting of fixtures from the International Cricket Council. It is scheduled to host matches for the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, events that will bring global attention to this specific patch of land.
The ground is distinct from its predecessor, the Wanderers Cricket Ground, established in 1990. While both serve the national team, the new facility represents a shift in infrastructure. The funding came from the Government of Namibia, led by CEO Johan Muller, indicating a state-backed commitment to the sport. The opening match against South Africa was a T20I, a format that suits the modern, fast-paced nature of the game and the new venue.
There are no attendance records to compare, as the venue is too new. The focus remains on the immediate future and the matches that will fill these seats.
