There is a place in the 18th District. It is the Pestszentimrei Sportkastély.

The hall opened in 2006. It was designed by Tibor Hajós. Inside, the floor is marked for handball. This is where PLER Budapest prepares for the season. The players run on the same surface that holds the seats for the 18th District league, a smaller stage but one that feels just as important on a Tuesday night.

The space is not only for sport. In the winter, the same floor that catches a fast-moving ball is cleared for a concert. Orchestras and rock bands have played here, and the acoustics change depending on whether 800 fans are cheering or 3,000 are seated in silence. The capacity shifts like the light through the windows. There are no grand tiers of concrete here, just rows of plastic seats that are pulled back to make room for the stage.

Outside, the football pitch is a square of green artificial turf, untouched by the weather. It is smaller than the pitches in the city centre, but it is the only one in the immediate neighbourhood. A few trees stand around the perimeter, their leaves falling onto the synthetic grass. The building itself is unremarkable from the street, a block of concrete and glass, but inside it holds the history of the district. It is a place where people come to watch, to play, and to listen, regardless of what the season brings.
