The ground was the Jeddah Youth Care Stadium , also written as Jeddah Youth Stadium, and it kept that name until 2001, when it was renamed in honour of Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal.
That second role is the interesting one. When King Abdullah Sports City is not in use, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad both fall back here for league fixtures, which means the same pitch serves two sets of supporters who share a city and little else.
