RT TORAX ARENA

It is not the oldest ground in the city, but it has lived through two distinct phases of existence. The site first hosted an open-air ice rink in November 1977, a simple affair with spectator stands but no roof. That structure was replaced by the current enclosed hall following a reconstruction completed in 1998. The project, which cost roughly 160 million Czech koruna at the time, included a second training hall and saw the capacity set at 5,000. The venue opened under its new guise on 26 October 1998.

The building’s function has shifted over the decades. It remains the home of HC RT Torax Poruba in the Czech 1. liga, but it is also a stop on the international circuit. The arena has hosted Davis Cup qualifiers, including matches against South Korea and Israel, as well as the UEFA Futsal Euro 2005 and the International Para Hockey Cup in December 2021. A major renovation between 2023 and 2024 saw the installation of 2,603 new folding seats, reducing the capacity to 4,200 to meet modern standards. HC Vítkovice Ridera occasionally uses the facility when their primary arena is unavailable.
