Saab Arena opened in September 2004 with a capacity of eight thousand five hundred seats, though the current configuration for the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) sits at 8,190. The discrepancy suggests a reconfiguration after the naming rights transferred in July 2014, when the sponsor changed from the confectionery company to the car manufacturer.
Linköping HC plays here, and the venue occasionally hosts the semi-finals of Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s Eurovision selection. The arena also welcomes international concerts with a capacity of up to 11,500. The ice surface is natural, kept frozen by refrigeration systems. The attendance record for hockey matches stands at 8,190, achieved when the house was full for games against Färjestad BK.
