The surface is an artificial carpet laid over a cement base.

It was once the Tanuma High School ground, a multi-purpose sports field used by the local community. Cricket activities began here in 2009, when the location was known as the Tanuma Cricket Ground. The Sano City Council decided to transform the site into a dedicated international venue in 2016, and the work was completed by 2018.

There is little to see in terms of grand architecture. A small, simple stand provides seating for 2,000 spectators, but the main feature is the playing area itself. The ground has hosted significant tournaments, including the 2014 ICC Women's East Asia-Pacific Trophy and the 2019 Under 19 World Cup Qualifier. It has also seen international matches between Japan and India, as well as visits from teams like Pakistan. The facility includes a separate ground, known as SICG2, which sits alongside the main arena.

The location is close to Tokyo, yet it feels removed from the city’s noise. The artificial turf is maintained to ensure consistent play in all conditions, a necessity for a venue in this part of the world. The Japan Cricket Association manages both the ground and the website for visitors, providing information on bookings and events. The ground has become a central hub for cricket development in the region, hosting local leagues and international fixtures alike.

It is a functional space that prioritises the sport over spectacle. The view from the field is dominated by trees and open sky, and the sound of the ball hitting the bat echoes across the empty stands. For those who travel to see cricket in Japan, this is where they will find it. It is not a traditional cricket oval, but it serves its purpose well.
